A Kitchen Design that Dreams are Made of by Maison Blonde
When dynamic design duo Nicole & Brad De Vries set out to create a kitchen in their client’s forever home, what they created was not only functional for the large family but spectacular from all angles.
Based in Ottawa, Ontario, Nicole and Brad de Vries are the husband and wife duo and creative minds behind Maison Blonde, a boutique interior, and garden design studio. We recently connected with Nicole and Brad about their glorious Woodhill Bungalow design project and the spectacular kitchen space they created for the owners.
Fulgor Milano: What was your main inspiration behind the design?
Maison Blonde: This project was a forever home for our soon-to-be-retired clients. With that in mind, our priority was to create a timeless design that would transcend trends and provide a functional space. We have always been inspired by European millwork, particularly British, with its cozy and very subtle details. This kitchen incorporates inlay millwork, a sort of millwork not so common in North America, along with a custom white oak island that's excellent for hosting large family gatherings.
FM: The kitchen includes a mix of whites and neutrals combined with darker tones (stools & light fixtures) and a mix of metals - how do you envision spaces like this when using such a great combination?
MB: Combining off-whites such as 'White Dove' from Benjamin Moore with white oak, and decorating with unlacquered brass hardware and ebony stain stools gives the kitchen an earthy and calm feeling that will remain relevant and beautiful for the years to come.
FM: The 36” Dual Fuel Sofia Professional Range is a spectacular addition to the space - both in form and function. What was it about that appliance that inspired you to include it in the final design?
MB: A large family calls for a large range! The 36" Sofia Range was chosen for its simple design detailing and flexibility with grates and grills. Swapping out the center grate for a grill to cook bacon & eggs on adds some extra enjoyment to the cooking process! A solid stainless steel backing to the dials on the front also indicates durability and will last as long as the kitchen itself.
